The Venue
Deeply rooted in its community and alive with creativity Whitley Bay Playhouse blends rich heritage with a modern theatrical experience. Following a £8.5 million transformation, the venue offers a 638‑seat auditorium, stylish bars and welcoming social spaces, all overlooking the sea. It is proudly a cultural cornerstone of the Northeast coast.
About the Role
You will make it your mission to deliver a welcoming and seamless customer experience at the Playhouse Whitley Bay, supporting the Box Office Manager in driving ticket sales, engaging audiences, and ensuring every visitor’s journey—from enquiry to curtain call—is efficient, professional, and memorable, with flexibility to support wider venue operations where required.

Key Responsibilities:
Delivering an exceptional box office experience by selling tickets in person and via phone, providing knowledgeable guidance, and responding to all customer enquiries and complaints across multiple channels.
Supporting the Box Office Manager in the smooth day-to-day running of the function, ensuring service levels are met and operations remain efficient at all times.
Managing event-day responsibilities, including liaising with customers, promoters, and internal teams to ensure seamless delivery of concerts and performances.
Handling financial processes accurately, including reconciling daily transactions, reporting discrepancies, and authorising refunds in line with company guidelines.
Maintaining ticketing operations through the AXS system, including event set-up, sales management, batch ticket printing, and providing sales insight to promoters as required.
We are looking for someone with:
Proven experience working in a supervisory or customer-facing role, confidently engaging with colleagues at all levels and building strong, collaborative relationships.
Excellent communication skills across written, telephone, and face-to-face interactions, with a professional and well-presented approach.
A strong track record in customer service and sales, combined with high attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality outcomes.
Solid administrative capability, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to manage tasks accurately and efficiently.
A proactive, self-motivated mindset with the ability to work independently and use initiative, alongside experience with ticketing systems such as AXS, Ticketmaster, or Eventim being advantageous.
